65-66 power antennae, new rubber cover?

I have my power ant. out of my 66. It has a plastic covering over it. If I cut this off is there a product that I can buy to encapsulate again like the origional? The ant. works it is just slow, I am thinking a good cleaning and lubrication.

I had my antenna restored by Greg Thompson and the material he used is close to what I originally had. Since you don't need the complete restoration,Greg may sell you just the plastic covering or indicate where you can get it. His e-mail is gthompson49@kc.rr.com.

I don't know what the coating is, but it's a translucent brown and has a waxy, greasy feel to it. You might call up one of the people who restore 65/66 antennas and either ask them what they use, which they may or may not tell you, or you might ask them what they would charge to recoat yours once you've gone thru the mechanical/electrical cleaning or repair.

I think there's a fellow at OEM glass who restores them and so does another fellow by the name of Greg Thompson (gthompson49@kc.rr.com).

        Bill,

I just bought a restored 1965 Corvette power antenna from Greg and it looks great, including the brown, translucent coating.
