    1963 air cleaner wing nut

After reading the other posts about wing nuts, I wanted to post a picture of the one that came with my 63 just to see if it may be correct. The chrome plating is long gone and the part # for 63 is different than later years. Thanks for the responses. Tim

      Here's my two

      Tim,

Couldn't get your picture to pop up. Here's my two:

The one on the left I believe is a 67 original, the one on the right a current repro. I think the main difference is in the thickness of the metal, the original one is thinner.

      Here's a side view:

67 original on left, repro on right

        Re: Here's my two

Thanks Jerry, I am having problems with pictures and I think they need to be resized. If you open the post and wait the picture will show eventually. I never had problems before so I will try again when I get back home. What I wanted to show is this wing nut that came with my 63, it's different than the later style and I wanted everyone's opinion to see if it is even correct for 63. Tim

They came in on my office computer

          Tim,

So the problem is probably with my slow one at home.

            Tim,

Your pictures came in slowly for me because of their size. If you crop them to show just the wing nut and eliminate the extraneous image, they will be smaller and more manageable for posting.

I am not familiar with the wing nuts for 1963. Sorry I cant't help with them.

My wife just walked by me and looked at the screen and said "Oh no, not those wing things again".

Not even close. The OE '63 air cleaner nut was stamped - like the examples in Jerry's photos.

Re: 1963 air cleaner wing nut

Tim, The only thing I can say about your pitted wing nut is that it resembles the ones that hold the air cleaner adapter on for say a 58 to 62 FI car. I said resembles. Scroll down further here as this subject was just covered the other day. Dukes answer is correct. Your wing nut is 100% incorrect.
Suggestion: Buy a nice repro as they are cheap and close enough except for the wackos here like me and others. On ebay a repro just sold for over a hundred bucks. I've probably spend more money though on printer ink for this wing nut thing. Now to dig thru about a 1000 pages of good info and put all the wing nut pics in one file folder. I don't put all this crap on floppies anymore. Getting sick of all the floppy discs. Prefer the good old photos. JD

Thanks for all the replies, I am curious about 63 wing nut because the part # is different and I don't need to explain how 63 parts changed to anyone here.
