    C3: Air duct PN# 3944988

What is the application for this duct? For AC only cars? What years?

I can find no record whatsoever of GM #3944988, either PRODUCTION or SERVICE. If that's the actual part number I can only suspect that it's a component of an assembly and not a part number for a PRODUCTION or SERVICE part.

      Dan,
Is that the number that is cast or etched into the duct? If it is, that number is not the part number, and often doesn't yield a part number.

Joe, Terry - The number is molded into the part. I assumed it was a GM PN based on the beginning numbers "39."

The reason I ask is that I'm missing the air duct on my '70 that exits from the the forward part of the center console into the passenger footbox. What PN is correct for this duct?

It's definitely a GM part number but that does not mean that it's a finished part number. Individual components of assemblies usually have GM part numbers and these numbers may sometimes be found on the components, but it's meaningless from a part identification point of view. The part numbers of such components of assemblies have meaning only to the sub-assembly operations that manufacture the assemblies. The individual components are usually not used on vehicle assembly lines or available in SERVICE.

The part number dates from the later 1968-early 1969 period. However, the assmbly that it was part of may well have been used after that time.

Does the 1970 in question have C-60 or not?

Joe - no AC in the car.

The piece you seek was GM #3963797. This was an ASSEMBLY that consisted of a fiberglass duct with metal grilles and other attached metal pieces. It's very possible that the fiberglass COMPONENT of that assembly was of the GM number you mentioned earlier. It's also likely that the number 3963797 appeared nowhere on the part.

GM #3963797 was discontinued in May, 1977 and replaced by GM #459362, the duct used in PRODUCTION for 1980-82 Corvettes (and, possibly used for 78-79 models, as well). GM #459362 was discontinued without supercession in January, 1993.
