    C2 Parking lamps/Turn Signals

Approximately 2 years ago I installed a set of TRIM AUTO PARTS lights on my 65 Coupe. They are excellent quality and beautiful in all respects and as far as I was concerned they met the NCRS standard of "Original". They passed several flight judgings including a Regional and a National with no deductions.
At a recent Regional, the judge found that the color coding on the pig-tail wires did not conform to the wiring diagram in the AIM....and after checking the AIM he was correct.
Does anyone make an after market light assembly(parking light/turn signal light)that meets the NCRS standard and has the correct wire colors?

    Thanks,

    DP

    Re: C2 Parking lamps/Turn Signals

First are we about to discuss the front parking/turn lights ???

Next, please list the three colors which are coming out of the parking light and for more complete information please list in order (what color in center).

I have an AIM page with a rev date of 7/14/65 showing colors as W,PPL,LBL - no order here.

I have 4 NOS units in box; one is W,LBL,PPL and three are LBL,W,PPL These are ordered, ie the middle color listed is what is physically in middle. On my car the left is LLB,W,PPL while right is LBL,PPL,W however my car is a Mar64 and I know one of the lights is closer to a 63 model than a 65, just not sure which one it is, may verify this later in week if necessary. Also do a search on this.

      Dwight -

No, they don't (at least as far as I know). '64-'65 lamps used purple/blue/black, '66-'67 used white/purple/blue, and the Trim Parts lamps have brown/white/blue.

        Alan:
Yes we are talking about the front parking lights/turn signal lights.

The TRIM ligts pig-tail is BLUE-White-Brown. There is no difference between driver side and passenger side.

The AIM wiring diagram shows the pig-tail as:
        Driver side 20B 20PPL 20B/LB
        Passenger side 20B 20DBL 29PPL

I have my original lights...perhaps I can remove the original wires and splice or solder them into the new light.

I would follow what John listed for colors.
The colors you listed appear to be those at the light connector on the inner skirt - believed you where looking for the colors on the parking light pigtail that John listed and are listed in the AIM page I have dated 7/14/65 (that sheet was in my 64 AIM) so that is what I have listed. If I mis-understood, never mind.

            Hi Dwight:

I believe that the pigtail is permanently assembled to the brass socket assembly, and the brass socket assembly is swaged(sp?)to the chrome plated pot metal casting by bending over the lip of the brass socket.

I have long suspected that an original pigtail/socket assembly could be successfully transplanted into a reproduction chrome casting, and in fact I bought some pitted original units at Carlisle with the intention of trying to make the transplant. However, before I got around to trying it I picked up a nice set of originals so the issue became moot.

You may find that the original pot metal casting has to be sacrificed to get the socket out unharmed, so don't mess up your originals unless the chrome is in really bad shape and they are unuseable anyway. Contact me offline if you want some parts to experiment with. I'd be interested to know if this transplant can be accomplished.

              Joe:

Thanks for the information.....My originals are stored. I will get to them sometime in the next week and let you know what I find.
