Roy - Did You Ever Rally a 53 to 55???

Look at all the accessories and gadgets in this 53 to 55. What a cool interior.

I cannot imagine rallying in one of these cars however. I drove my 54 the other day for 20 minutes, and my back was sore before I made it home.

    I have, many times...

including the club's annual "Hot Dog Run", which is an annual convluted drive through the fall foliage of eastern PA. I have also run my 55 in time trials, for the 1/8 mile (no roll bar). I have also driven the car, when moving, both to and from Florida. Was it your back or something lower down? You may need to replace the springs or foam in your seat.

      Russ -

I'll bet there aren't many folks left who remember the Halda Speedpilot or the Curta Calculator.

I never realized how popular rallying was back in the day until I started looking thru old SCCA Sports Car magazines. Rallying was a bid deal, apparently.

Is rallying still popular? I have never come across modern rallying info - maybe I am just not looking for it, however.

I spotted some of the old rallying calculators and timers on ebay a while back. Pretty pricey stuff for the collector.

Good to hear you push your 55 around a bit. I enjoyed restoring my 54, but driving it sure is a lot more fun.

I have a bad lower back, and certain car seats are okay and some are not. I buy new cars by how comfortable the seat is. (Mercedes kill me, but BMWs are comfy, and some domestics work pretty well too).

I can ride in my 59 for awhile, but the 54 is just a killer. My 54 seats are in really good condition, but lack support in the right places.

NRA(National Road Autosports) was born over 5 years ago and we started the first weekend with both an autox and a road rally.Autox grew from 60 cars per day the first weekend to now turning away registrations greater than 110 cars per day. Road rallying started at 50 cars per day and within 2 years registrations were so meager that we discontinued the rallys. Seems the older folk were rallyers while both the old and young git er done autox'ing. i personally prefer motoring without the passenger seat being occupied.mike

Russ, I used to do Rallys in my 63. Finished third a few times. My Rally Computer was a little more advanced. Eric #3,182
