I have been watching E-bay and other sites looking for a nice C2 coupe. There are some out there but it seems to be the same ones week after week. It doesn't look to me like any of them are selling! I know it is sort of the off season, but things have been this way for some time. Any opinions !!

Re: Bottom dropping out of C2 market???
Tom, Bottom is dropping out of everything right now it seems. With gas over 3 buks a gallon it is hurting us bad. Just today I was parked at a Sunoco and I looked up at the $$$ sign and it was scary.
But you still see people on ebay paying outragious prices for unestored junker FI's so who knows. This time of the year the hobby slows down. Happens every year. It doesn't come alive again until the 20's of January. It's like clockwork and never ceases to amaze me nor does it fail me. Same thing. Seems to have something to do with the moon tides or some crap like that. Why is it that everyone calls me on one day and no one calls the next day? The answer is deeper than most of us can figure out.JD- Top

You ain't seen nothing...
When I flew to Amsterdam last summer to drive with Rob to LeMans in his '68 BB, the typical tab at the gas stations for a fill-up ran around $115 US. Now, we're talking about a 14 gallon tank with premium petrol running around $9/gal.
Nobody was 'bitching' there and Corvettes ARE alive and well on the highways... So, I have problems believing those with wealth enough to own/operate a 'toy' car and interesting in the blast index experience of a classic Corvette are closing their wallets based on US fuel prices!
If so, I assure you there are parties in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Etc. who'll belly up to the bar for our cars....- Top

Re: You ain't seen nothing...
I think the market is still pretty good. Maybe not stupid crazy, but good. Just go out and try to get a steal on a nice high quality C2. You can't. If you want an old average car, now' a good time to find a deal. But good cars always bring good money. No matter what. JMO.Tom Hendricks

Re: You ain't seen nothing...
The high price of gasoline in Europe is because of taxes. Look at the what those taxes pay for. I would gladly pay $6.00 a gallon if I didn't have to pay license fees, got free health care or had no sales tax/lower income tax etc. Look at the big picture.- Top

Re: Bottom dropping out of C2 market???
The current Media over the top Hype of Doom and Gloom may be just that. I believe in the CNBC Kudlow Creed. So when oil hits above $3 a gallon. The Muscle car market does slow down. ( I'm lookin for a 68-69 GTX Driver, so I'm countin' on it) But the higher end cars Vettes etc. don't seem to be so affected. This time of the year is Great for buyin but as spring approaches, the WANT factor comes back so the prices rise. You see a true value on an correct C2 Buy it now. Like good land they aint makin it anymore.- Top

Re: You ain't seen nothing...
Let's hope the bottom does fall out some on C2's. I for one do and will stick by that thought. So the gas has nothing to do with it. That's just wonderful news. But the cost of gas will slow down the economy and it already has. Just wait and see how it trickles down to everything you own and want.
But the truth is that with the prices sky for C2's high it has hurt our hobby. People are buying them purely for an investment and using them for a business venture. Turning them over. I know this for a fact because I get a lot of calls with guys wanting to make their 63-65 a fuel car because it is worth major bucks compared to a carb car. Guys call me that have original carb cars with the original engine and want to restamp it and make it a fuel car. Just so they can reap the benefits at an auction.
There are some of us that like C2's just because we had them when they were new. When we were kids. There are some of us that like C2's to restore every last nut and bolt and then hang onto them because we love the old midyears.
So if the prices go down that's good. Then the average Joe may be able to buy one and enjoy it just like I do, like you do. On the DB here it appears that there are a lot of do it yourself guys & girls working on their own C2 in hopes of getting a ribbon with it someday. That's what counts. Not the fact that it is worth boo coo bucks. So Mr. Humphrey I hope the market drops. But I still have a GMC that gets 9 miles per gallon. Don't you think it doesn't hurt to blow a 100 buks at the pumps and that doesn't even fill up the 37-1/2 gal tank. And this is just a start. Wait until the gas hits 4 buks a gallon. It's going to happen you know. JD.- Top

Re: Bottom dropping out of C2 market???
a lot of the price in a barrel of oil is speculation. if the demand market for oil does not go up the price will come dowm. gasoline at $2.80 to $2.90 a gallon is about right if you allow for inflation.- Top

Re: You ain't seen nothing...
The main reason we do not pay the prices Europe does is that we (America) have our own sources of crude, not taxes. We do not need socialized anything like healthcare, just common sense which is sadly lacking in today's politicians. Don H.- Top
