Has anyone had experience with or knowledge of using DuPont Nason 422-05 black chassis paint. Am considering using but unsure even after reading info on DuPont website. Says should use over a primed surface but does not indicate the nature of the primer. CarQuest store says they think the paint has a semi-gloss finish but this is not indicated on DuPont website. Any comments would be appreciated.

Re: Chassis paint
If your CarQuest guy can't help you with a primer, the go to the DuPont store...no mystery there; they'll be able to recommend a primer. My bud uses Nason...they sell a gray sanding primer that he uses pretty much under everything. If you can't find a primer number any other way, I find out from him what he's using.
To say chassis paint is "semi-gloss" is probably just a guess. Semigloss is too glossy IMO for chassis paint...most chassis paint is flatter than semigloss, or approximately "eggshell" gloss. Buy a pint, shoot a panel, compare to a known sample, or just eyeball it...that's the only way you'll know if it works for your purpose. My opinion is it'll be close enough that no one will argue with you about the gloss.- Top

Re: Chassis paint
Thanks Chuck. I'll call the only auto paint store in my area that handles DuPont and get their recommendation. Only reason I mentioned semi-gloss is that I think the judging manual says something about semi-gloss for chassis.- Top

Re: Chassis paint
Larry, you can also check Dupont's site or Google Nason + Dupont and you'll find tech sheets on the product line. It will mention suggested primers. I believe Nason requires a sealer as well. It will also give you reducers for the proper temperature, flash times etc. Handy info on two sheets.

Re: Chassis paint
Don't remember the number, but the Nason chassis black I used was way too flat. More like flat black, plus if you rubbed it, it had a haze that would come off. I may have done something wrong, but I don't plan to use it again.- Top
