1969 - Side pipe picture needed

I am trying to figure out where the foam insulator actually goes on a 69 with side pipes. The piece in question is the one that looks like a "P" or "d" and fits in the rear wheel area. The AIM looks as if it bends around something but can not figure out what. The shape does not match any part of the frame.
If a picture can be posted with it installed I would appreciate it.
