    Delco Dist Cap

Hi, I picked up a Delco Remy dist cap at a swap meet , can anyone help identify its use. It is brown bakelite with copper terminals . On top it says Delco-Remy and Patent 571534.

      Bill,
If memory serves me right I think you have a cap that is either Oldsmobile and/or Pontiac. I do think it fits a high performance car and has some collector car value. The 571534 window "index" I believe is different that a D-308. Also, I think those 571534 caps are much heavier plastic that the normal D-308 Delco caps used on Chevrolets for some unknown reason. Joe Lucia should be able to help here.

L/88's used the brown cap. International trucks of the mid and late '60's also used a brown cap but I do not remember the window index.

Who had Doc?? I have seen a few under 5,000 miles with the brown cap but no way to verify if it is original.

I think that what you have here is a D-325, aka GM #800063. This was used on some 60's Cadillac applications. However, to be sure, compare it to a known Delco D-308 (still available from GM or Delco). If the window is in exactly the same place as the D-308, then what you have is a D-309. If it's in a different relative location, then you have the D-325.

I ran the TI system from the "12-mile" '67 L-88 on my SWC for several years. When I sold it to David Burroughs circa 1987 to install on the original car from where it came, it still had the original brown distributor cap. I also reinstalled the VAC with the cut off nipple and the original weights and springs, which I kept in a box over the years as I ran a Delco ...236 VAC and '64-'65 SHP/FI weights and springs.

I saw that L-88 the day it arrived on a flatbed from Alan Green Chevrolet. Then I helped the original owner molest is big time!
