'67 Brake Hose Clip ("U" Clip)

What would be the original finish for the "horse shoe" clips that hold the front and rear brake hoses to the frame and to the trailing arms for a '67 samll block convertible? I have seen both zinc plated and flat black in various catalogs.

Also, I have the same question for the mickey mouse clips that secure the parking brake cable to the frame: stainless steel or black?

    Thanks

Mark. For '65, the clips are black and for Mickey Mouse? Just the way we expect him: natural!

"Gold" cad plating on the horseshoe clips and natural on the "Mickey" clips works for me on my 67.....

          Kurt------

Well, since you asked I'll offer up an opinion. The original spring clips for the brake line that I've seen have been a finish that appeared to me to be black oxide. Often, this rusts. The clips used on 1963 through 1973 Corvettes were GM #476737. From 1974 through 1982 GM #334961 was used. The latter became SERVICE for 63-73 models in late 1973. It's VERY possible that either of these spring clips had specs which allowed for optional finishes. If so, that might explain why different folks have seen different things.

The "Mickey Mouse" clip used from 1967 through 1982 was GM #3875092. The examples of these that I've observed appeared to be black phosphate finished. Once again, it may be that different finishes were allowed or it may be that the finish specified was changed at some point during the period of its use.

By the way, the clip used for 1963-66 model Corvettes was GM #516213 which is a completely different design than the 3875092. In May, 1975 that clip "came back" and replaced the GM #3875092 for all 63+ SERVICE (even though the 3875092 apparently continued to be used in PRODUCTION). The GM #516213 continues to be available in SERVICE. It is a black-oxide finished spring clip. I don't know if the original 63-66 version was black oxide, or not.

            Joe,
Thank you as always for sharing your knowledge.
Mark, who made the original post , is a frined of mine with a 67 who has just begun the journey down the road of restoration that I, with your help, have just completed. He asked me about the correct finish and I didn't know the answer but knew someone who did,,,you.
            Thank you,
            Kurt
