Does anyone know the history of this car? The 53-55 registry shows that it was destroyed in a fire in the 70's. The auction ad states "that it was found in an estate sale in PA in 2003. It had been stored, unrestored and untouched since the owner bought it in 1961." Conflicting history data? Does anyone know the correct story of this car?

Re: 1953 #103 Hilton Head Auction
Is it just me, or is anyone else disturbed by cars being mis-represented for the big $$$$$ gain? I'm not new to this game by a long shot. Does it even bother people anymore as long as the car is selling for high dollars? It's awful disheartening to see these things go on and people lay out their $$$ for a story. This isn't what this hobby is supposed to be, in my opinion. I guess the temptation to make a dollar is just too big for some.- Top

Re: 1953 #103 was at Waco Regional
When I visited with the owner last weekend in Waco and asked about the condition of the car when he started, he mentioned that it was in "project car" condition and had fire damage to one side. It and the '54 beside it were both well restored.- Top

Re: 1953 #103 was at Waco Regional
The owner in 1972, Gale Garman, Ephrata, PA, stated in the CCC Volume II, No, III, that the car had been destroyed in a fire that burned the body shop to the ground. The pictures showing the car coming out of long term storage do not show any fire damage that I could see.
The 53-55 Corvette Registry indicates also that the car was destroyed in a fire in the 70's. A call to the estate of the deceased owner will clear up the story.- Top

Re: 1953 #103 Hilton Head Auction
I have two references:
1. Was mentioned in the VCCA's "Real McCoy" list in the 10/73 Blue Flame Special. Owned by Gale Garman, RD1, Ephrata PA 17522
2. 1975 Vintage Corvette Club Mebership roster shows it belonging to Gale Garman.- Top
