    Restoration Tips Please

I have a couple of interior items, door pulls and visors, that are in need of restoration or replacement. I have tried cleaning them to bring them back to the factory white color but they are highly resistant to a variety of cleaning products. Does anyone have any resto tips or can someone recommend a good source for quality replacement items?

BTW, I thought the Bloomington show was great and we all had a wonderful time.

    Thanks,

    Chris

Chris, as far as quality repro parts the few things I've bought so far from Long Island Corvette supply have been pretty good. There catalog is very complete for all sorts of odd and ends.

Consider white vinyl dye. Especially on something like sunvisors.

        Randy-----

I think that we're talking about differnt parts. The door LOCK is the device in the middle of the door rear surface which locks the door closed by gripping the striker mounted on the rear door jamb. This is the part that I thought you were referring to.

The part that you are actually referring to is, apparently, the door lock CONTROL, GM #3966719 (left side). This control is serviced only as an assembly and both the left and the right side controls are GM discontinued. However, excellent reproductions (of foreign, but high quality, manufacture) are available on the Corvette market for about $60.

Usually, the part that fails in these controls is the zinc-diecast ("pot metal") lever to which the inner door handle attaches. Parts for the controls have never been available from GM and are not available in the aftermarket, as far as I know.

I'd look for a good used example or purchase the reproduction.

Here's a place where you can find Guldstrand and well over a thousand other Corvette listings. Just about anything Corvette you can think of.

The Corvette Action Center is the ultimate online hub of Corvette news and information including a Corvette forum, specs, tech info and more.

Re: Source for door latch parts?

The part I'm talking about is in the center of the door by the drivers hip, not at the rear of the door. My door LOCKs are in good condition, apart from grease that has the consistency of cold wax and bent actuator rods.

I haven't been able to find a used CONTROL, apparently it is common for the drivers side to break or wear out. Since no one makes parts I'll go ahead and order a reproduction.

                Thanks again
