    c3-71 new Holley question

Thinking of pulling off 71 service holley off lt-1 (headers and 4:11s) and buying brand new holley. Anyone have any suggestions on model? Also, do I have to do anything different with linkage? with choke? any other thoughts.

    Thanks

Since you mentioned LT-1 with headers and 4:11's I recommend a new Holley 0-4777C 650 CFM Model 4150. It has power valve blowout protection and is a double pumper, so you have absolute control as to when the secondaries open and how far they open, always. Do recommend you change the plastic/nylon floats out for the metal ones.

you might have air cleaner fitment problem concerning vent tube to the right hand valve cover as most double pumpers rear pump hit the tube---get a 3310 series and use the 34-13 rear metering block conversion---the only issue might be the choke rod---you will have 750 cfm vac. secondaries---good luck, phil

        Re: c3-71 new Holley question

Phil you are correct about the fitment of the air cleaner. Had to slightly dent in my Corvette's open element air filter's base fresh air vent tube for the operation of my Holley 0-4777 double pumper. I also ordered the electric choke for my double pumper, so all I had to do was connect a wire with a 12 power source to it. There is a plastic connector that was always available from my underhood wiring harness since my 70 was new. It has 12 volts when the ignition is turned on, so I just plugged into it to operate the electric choke. My other Holley double pumper installations used the same choke operation as the Q-Jet they replaced ,the thermostatic spring, with no problems on hook up.

jim thanks for the choke rod info, i've always wondered about that but never worried about chokes here in so. cal.---phil---although i'm leaning towards car correctness more as time goes on

            Peter -

Any "new" Holley you buy won't have provisions to accept your existing remote choke operating rod; you'll need to run an electric choke. What's wrong with the existing carb?

I have blown power valves before and had to have replaced(not sure how to do myself). Think I did again because car seems to smell of burning gas from exhaust (running too rich?) when driving-lot of fumes if you stand back of car). Someone told me that was the power valve and new holley would cure this type of problem from happening.

John - does this sound accurate or misinformation?

some one please send me a "blown" power valve---i've yet to see one---i've had nitrous back fires that have melted the mesh in an open element air cleaner and have torn the carb "holley" down to find the "blown" power valve---not to be mean but i would like to see one---phil

                  Peter -

It's a lot simpler (and cheaper) to install a Holley #125-500 Power Valve Check Ball Kit, which will give you the same level of power valve protection provided in newer Holleys; costs about ten bucks.

any good carb guy can install a holley

power valve check ball kit, part #125-500 in your carb to prevent the PV from "blowing out" during a carb backfire. if your carb was built after 1992 it should have this installed from the holley factory

John I just checked with Auto Zone for the Holley #125-500, their price is about $17.00 plus taxes.
