Duke S/B Head Gasket Res Project

    Duke,

Got a chance to measure my head gasket per your instructions, I think. Here's a photo with a .017 feeler gage lodged in place while I took the picture:

Feeler gages .017 or below would stay in place. .018 or above would not go in and would not stay in place. Allowing for some dirt or paint on the pad I'd say .018 is about right.

This a 67 base engine car 327/300, very late 22049 Heads have never been off.

On the driver side forward, I think that this is a picture of the corner of the head gasket:

No hole but a slight depression partially covered up by the head, decide for your self (if this indeed is the corner of the gasket)

Thanks for the measurement and photo. It appears that the OE .018" gasket has no round hole in the corner, but the OE replacement .026" gasket does have the round hole in the corner. The .017" stainless steel gasket listed in the seventies Chevrolet Power Manuals has a square hole in the corner.

A gasket measurment close to .018" and no hole in the corner is pretty good evidence that the heads have never been off.
