    Re: A Familiar NCRS Face...

Is that a policy change?...I thought new owners were driving the cars out after NCM delivery in 2005.

Anyway, I was just ribbing Terry...as I remember my own dealer delivery, driving a new car you're unfamiliar with out of a building is probably a bad idea. I was concerned enough with keeping it between the white lines and the ditch...hands were shaking, ya know.

They didn't give me a choice. NCM staff drove it out like Harry said. The only debate we had is who was to ride shotgun. I could have taken out the NCRS display, or the glass front of the delivery room -- I have no clue about C4, 5 or 6. After over an hour of "program this, and set that, and fob #1" -- my head was spinning.

The Museum people do a great job at familiarizing the new owner, but there is no way I am going from C3 to C6 in a couple of hours. I intend to learn the car on far more familiar roads. There is only a week or three of driving weather left in Illinois anyway.

I'll get to see Chuck's videos when I get home. The laptop and hotel "high-speed" connection would go tilt if I tried to download all that here.

Thanks Chuck for notifying the troops.

          Terry,

We have nice weather in Oklahoma all times of the year. I'll be glad to take care of it for you until good weather returns to Illinois.

Drive it like you stole it!

I've seen entirely too many C6 Z06s with the greasy side up or otherwise badly crunched on the Internet.

I often describe the demise of my first Corvette, a 1969 that lasted 3200 miles and six weeks, as "high performance car -- low performance driver." Unfortunately I know my driving skills have not improved with age, but I do hope to learn from those experiences. High performance driving school is on my list for this winter. Me thinks I might have to do that more than once. :-)

Setting up your personal choices will be the first priority...all the General's defaults will not be your choice, but many will be. Once you are accustomed to never taking the "key" out of your pocket, you will not understand how you ever got along without this feature. Just keep the owner's manual handy; you'll have it down cold before you know.

Here's a fundamental tip that may save you some grief and works for me: Designate your left front pants pocket as the "FOB" pocket...no cell phone, no other keys, no change; this will keep you from getting into arguments with your new mistress about whether or not you have the FOB on your person.

By now you know that this "blind crow" could only deliver old technology in the form of jpg files...my computer's secret police will not allow ActivX controls for the videos, and I'm too old to figure out the tricks. Judging from your responses today, I would say you are very familiar with how it feels to be overwhelmed by technology.

Congrats, Terry...It was my pleasure to be of help.

                NEVER

turn of the traction control or active handling on the street as these corvettes can get away from you and not just the Z0-6s. competition handling is where the traction control shuts of but active handling is still with you. have fun as i know my 2008 is the quickest corvette of the 11 new ones i have had and that includes my 66 450 HP 427. allow for new tires about every 8/10,000 miles in your budget because thse ZO-6 tires are very soft and have shallow tread depth when new and they do not work very well on wet roads once they wear down.
