Bill, Don't blame you for being confused. Here is what I plan on doing. I am getting a set of each part number just to see what the scoop is.
Meanwhile I for one am pleased that you made this post. Sorry for all the confusion on my part. It's not easy getting the same answer twice. It appears that it is a toss up between the two sets. Each one has its advantages and disadvantages. One of the fellows on VH's said he put his own terminal ends on the distr side and heard a lot of popping and cracking from spark jumping.
Yours option though is cut and dry. Buy the 508N's and forget about it since you have a carb car. FI guys can do the same and leave the shield off. After all we are talking about drivers and not show cars. JD

Re: Sooo?? Am I using 508N's, I'm confused?

Do you have any idea where you can find 90 degree terminals and boots? They seem to be in very short supply in this part of the country.

Then you need the special pliers to put the ends on...........

I am not saying AC Delco are not a good replacement. But since you asked about using another brand I will recommend Moroso spiral core. Have used a set on my 68 327/350 for at least 20 years. They come with moulded ends and cut to fit specific year Corvettes. The distributor ends are not straight so any shielding should not interfere. Solid wire conductor and molded ends into the distributor cap are main reasons I use these my 68 and 70 original owner drivers. One definate advantage of the AC Delco wires without the premolded distributor ends is that you can thread this end through the motor mount when installing.

Put the 508N's on the car last night. No problems they fit in all the retainers and the shielding will work just fine. This is a carb/driver car so I am happy with the results. Thanks for everyones assistance.

                  Phil,

Their website, www.smpcorp.com, shows part numbers #7836 and #804W, so based on the similarity to my numbers, I am guessing the 804W would be what you're looking for. That said, I'd contact their customer service with your question(s) directly to confirm. I had e-mailed my questions to helpline@smpcorp.com and was contacted by Michael Famighetti, Associate Quality Engineer - a real car guy, very informative, and super-helpful.

                  Good luck!

                  Louis

Pertronics also carries Corvette wire sets. I installed a set of these 7mm black wires in my '64 last year. These wires had 90 degree spark plug end boots and straight distributor cap end boots (black). The wires fit just fine and were well long enough to reach the forward cylinder spark plugs through the ignition shielding. ..

Summit lists their #708101 Corvette wire set as having 90 degree ends on both the spark plug and distributor end terminals, in black.
