    C2-66 L-79 Thermostat Housing

The NCRS judging manual states housing appears as silver. Is the housing painted or just raw cast. The replacement I ordered "correct numbers" appears
raw and silver in color. Should it be mounted as is.

    Thanks,

The coverage varied from car to car , but it was painted silver.

NCRS 66 Judging Manual (third Addition) states "the thermostat housing is cast iron, painted silver, with thepart number 3827369 across the top of the housing"

      Thanks Jim,

Would you have any idea what kind or brand of high temp silver paint I could use to achive this finish.

Others may have better advice than I on this , but I would use the VHT brand paints for teps sensitive items. They are the same people that make the Exhaust mainifold paints . All better auto parts stores carry it

It does not have to be real high temp paint. The thermostat housing should never get much hotter than about 250 degrees F. Just about any good engine paint will survive well over that. What would I use? Cast blast aluminum.

The same thermostat housing was used on the 1965 L78 BB car. The '65 JG states that it is painted silver.

I think that "silver" was a poor choice of a descriptive term for the paint used on the thermostat housings. If one purchases "silver" paint, it will be FAR too bright for use on these housings (when they are required to be painted). In fact, even a lot of aluminum paints will be far too bright, too. The cast blast aluminum paint that I mentioned is, in my opinion, a very close match for the paint originally used on these thermostat housings (and, aluminum manifolds when they were painted or "touched up").

                Thanks guys,

I bought some HT silver and painted the housing, but Joe I agree with you.
The housing looks to "Shinny" and Silver, I believe I will tone it down with some cast blast.

Eastwood makes a paint called "Aluma BLast" that works very well for the housing. Their Part# is 10109Z
