My Corvette Vin tag has 4 spot welds. 1 on the bottom left, and 1 immediately above. 1 on the top right and 1 immediately below. Is this correct?

As a general rule, NO. What's the serial # range? Does it show up with grinder marks (removing paint) where the spot welds occurred? -

The Vin Number is around 18290. No grinder marks can be seen on the tag. Thanks so much for your response, GeneComment

Gene,
The grinder marks would be on the steel brace that the tag is spot welded to. This clears the paint and primer for a good weld. Typically there is only one spot weld in the center of each end. If for some reason the spot welder was acting up or a new person was learning at the factory, a second pair of welds may have been needed if QA rejected the first welds.

I have seen several cars with 3 or 4 spot welds. If the first set didnt hold, the operator would pivot or move the spot welder to get a good weld. Not that uncommon.
