I have a very thick coat of rust over my engine stamp pad to the point I can't ID numbers and letters. What are some good methods to remove rust safely from the engine pad without damage to the numbers/letters and broach marks? I have used navel jelly and one other rust remover. Not much success.

My experience with Navel Jelly is that it is slow, but it does a good job of disolving just the rust without damaging the underlying metal. I think that if you make sure that the surface is free of oil residue, and you make repeated applications ofthe Navel Jelly, you will eventually get down to bare metal.
