    C2 - Oil after Rebuild ?

    Hello,

Any suggestions on the best oil to used after a rebuild ? GM no longer sells their Engine Oil Supplement (an oil in and of itself, I think), which I read was good.

    Thanks,
    Mark

Do a search here for some suggestions. This has been discussed a ton in the not so distant past. I used Shell Rotella in mine, but the brand isn't as important as the rating on the bottle. As long as it has the proper additives, many brands will work.

Mark, This question comes up at least once a week. Should be one of the easier subjects to find in the archives. Just like Tom said. JD

API service category CJ-4, 15W-40. Buy any brand, any place. Walmart carries a good selection including their own house brand. Do a little archive surfing if you want all the whys and wherefores.

        Go Bruins!!!

Thanks Tom, John, and Duke. I will do a little research. I was just down to a hot rod place and they recommended this performance additive (didn't write down the name), but it was a performance enhancing additive, which I would think means reduced friction - not a good thing before the rings are seated I would think.

He too, like you guys, mentioned that most of today's oils don't have the additives of yesteryear. This stuff supposedly does and protects the cam and other stuff but I'll look in the NCRS archives.

          Thanks,
          Mark

Hi Mark, Duke is right, a 15-40W diesel oil for break-in up to 500 miles then change oil and filter. Walmart brand is good and inexspensive too.

Hey Duke, I hope the "bean town" Bruins do well this year. It's been a while since seeing them in the playoffs.

                Thanks Ken,

I'll head down to Wal Mart. The archive search as recommended by others has been great. TON of info in there. I read (and had forgotten !) to make sure the fuel bowls are full, etc. I'll keep reading.

They need another Phil Esposito and Bobby Orr to make the magic return I'm afraid. But I'm still hopefull.........
