1986 EGR

I own a 1986 Corvette and am in need of an EGR Solenoid valve and Vaccuum Harness both of which are discontinued by GM. Does anyone know of a source for these parts? I am reluctant to go with used parts since the rigid vaccuum lines appear to get brittle with age.

As far as the solenoid goes, it depends what you're looking for. If you want an exactly original-configuration piece for judging purposes, you'll have to look for NOS or used. I REALLY don't recommend used for a piece like this. This is a life-limited component and who knows how much life a used one has left in it? The GM part number was GM #1997195. It is possible, though, that this piece is still available from Delco dealers. The Delco number is 214-340. I'd check with a Delco dealer first.

If your primary intention is a FUNCTIONAL replacement, Standard Motor Products still manufactures this piece under their number VS-35. Actually, I think that the configuration of this piece is VERY close to the originals, so you may not be losing much as far as that goes, either. Any good auto parts store ought to be able to order this for you.

With respect to the harness, that's another story. It's been GM-discontinued for quite a few years and I know of no source for it. It was GM #14087573. Your best bet may be to try to repair the one you have as best you can. I also agree that used is a "last resort" for a piece like this.
