    Normal C2 327 Oil Pressure??

Please help me confirm this......My (aging) memory is that the normal oil pressure for a factory built C2 small block is about 40 psi @ 1500 rpm, correct? That's what I recall seeing "Car Life" magazine report back in the day....

    Thanks,
    Bob S.

Unless the engine has been freshly rebuilt and is still 'tight', 40 lbs of oil pressure at 1500 RPM on a fully warmed up engine seems quite high to me. I'd expect readings in the 15-25 lbs range.

It depends on the year/engine. Most are speced at 40-45 psi @ 2000, hot. Beginning late in the '63 model year mechanical lifter SBs were increased to 55-60 psi @ 2000, and this carried through on SBs through '65. SHP big blocks are the same.

As a general rule, engines with the higher oil pressure spec have 80 psi gages, 60 for the lower spec.

See the AMA specs for each specific year/engine.

Duke - Please excuse my ignorance, but what are the AMA specs and where can I find them? I'm concerned about the base 327/300 in a '67 coupe I traveled quite a distance to look at yesterday. I need a credible, spec to help with negotiations......if I decide to try to buy it.

            Thanks for your help!

"Restoration package" from GM , 800-222-1020

Automotive Manufacturers' Assc. later called MVMA - Motor Vehicle Manufacturers' Assc.

They are included with the GM "restoration package" that is available complementary to all vintage Corvette owners and have a lot of good technical information.

Call GM Custormer Service at 800-222-1020. They will want your VIN.

The '67 base 327/300 normal hot oil pressure is spec 40-45 psi @ 2000, and this level should be maintained to the redline.

Speaking of the GM restoration package, are there any members in the US that would submit a Canadian members VIN to GM in order to receive the pkg and then forward it to my address in Canada? I would pay all postage required.
I've called the 1-800 number in the past and they would not mail to Canada. GM Canada does not seem to have a similar program. Thanks - Doug
