Re: ralley wheel paint for my 67
Does the argent silver have a green tint to it? Was just about to do the same thing and remembered some talk about a green tint to early rally rims. Know a friend has gone through h--- trying to get correct tint on his 70 and believe the 67 may have same tint. The repro shops did not have correct paint when tried.
Also have two DZ rims (no tires on these) one is all silver including inside tire area with part number paper tag still on it while the second is all black with front painted silver. The black appears to have been done by the dip method since runs are on it, but it is not gloss black. Better check archives, think you will find a lot of info there. Note my knowledge is very limited in this area so check with others.- Top

Maybe the latest edition of the '67 Judging Manual on page 68 below needs to be corrected. It is a little ambiguous. PT

Re: A little knowledge can be dangerous
Told you my "knowledge was limited" and that verifies it! Also have a black 67 rally (can not see code), but believe I made it black. Must be some past disucssions on this, if note check over on VH.
PS the black I was talking about is on the back and inside of wheel, not the section one sees from the road. Wonder if the paint ref has the green tint?- Top

Re: A little knowledge can be dangerous
The face of the production rally wheel is argent silver, and the rest of the wheel is semi-gloss black primer, and may show shadows of light silver overspray on the back side. Service replacement wheels were furnished by Kelsey-Hayes painted light gray so they wouldn't rust in storage (production wheels didn't have part number tags or stickers - they arrived at the plants as oiled raw steel, about 5,000 per rail car).- Top

Re: ralley wheel paint for my 67
Hi Alan:
The green tint first appeared in 1969. For 1967, the wheels were dip-primed in semi-gloss black and then the face was spray painted Argent Silver, with some overspray coming through the holes.
OEM Paints in California has both the "green tint" Argent Silver and the regular, "non-green-tint" Argent Silver. I used their non-green version on my 67 wheels and it looked like a good match to an original wheel that I compared it to. I have not seen the green tint version, but I suspect it is pretty good too. The OEM Paints products are expensive but they are high quality and well researched.
An inexpensive alternative for the 67 wheels that comes pretty close to the correct color is the Argent Silver sold by Eastwood.- Top
