At the Carlise swap meet this weekend I purchased some Corvette books including a 1968 Chevrolet Owner Protection Plan booklet including the Protect O Plate. How can I verify if this is for a Corvette as compared to another model Chevy and what does the information mean? The information on the plate is: STD 978, T06051LR, P8H11, 194378S422808, FA0609W, and two digits one over the other R, 6, and then under those what looks like a small Chevy Bowtie. Thanks for your help.

Re: 68 Protect O Plate ?
194378S422808 is a 1968 Corvette coupe s/n #22808
Std interior = black vinyl
978 exterior color. Since I don't have my reference books at hand you will have to look that one up.
T0605LR = 427cid/435hp engine built June 5th at Tonawanda, NY
P8H11 = 4-speed transmission built H month (I don't know what month that is without my reference library. Transmissions have a very strange month code sequence, and we do not ordinarily judge the codes.), 11th day, model year 1968.
FA0609W = the differential code, built June 9 at Warren gear works.
The meaning of the remaining letter and number are dependent on their location on the plate. That can be decoded from your copy of the 1968 Assembly Instruction Manual (AIM). The other information is available from your copy of the 1968-1969 NCRS Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide (TIM&JG). You really ought to build a reference library for your baby. These books are available from the sponsor of this site. Click on the radio button at the top of the page for the NCRS store.Terry- Top

Re: 68 Protect O Plate ?
Eric,
194378S..... indicates it is from a 1968 Corvette coupe. STD 978 seems to indicate standard black vinyl interior with International Blue exterior. That's all I interpret. There should be engine pad stampings, but I couldn't find the direct relationship for your car.

Re: 68 Protect O Plate ?
Sal ---- I suppose a nickname could be appropriate to accompany my signature. "Mr. Clean" has been suggested by my wife, but then, what does she know when it comes to cars and gearheads?
