Bumper Paint Savers , Saves the paint, loses pts.

Some time back I asked any members who may have heard of any manufactured gaskets for the bumper to glass contact areas when reinstalling your bumpers. In my case a 67. Well thanks for the members replies, I got my paint saver gaskets today from Dr.Rebuild.

I just spent a lot of money on restoring this car and I know it wasn't orignal equipment but should have been. I'm also using black weather stripping glue.

Again I know I lose points but I just want the car to look good. If I ever have to remove a bumper for some reason I won't have a glass/paint problem either from that steel bumper riding on the glass/paint contact area.grr#33570

I personally think that is an uncommon display of good sense. Then again, I'm one of those that believes that these old cars should be driven on a regular basis and shown for points as an afterthought.

      Re: Did you say "glue"?

      Grr,

Do you mean to glue the paint savers on with weatherstripping glue? If so, I wouldn't recommend it. Hopefully I've mis-interpreted what you wrote. TBarr #24014

Tom, no glue, they are just round thin rubber slotted (1/2"hole in middle) gaskets.ABOUT AS THICK AS A TIRES INTERTUBE. I think they cost $6.00. I'll install between fiber glass body and bumper with the through bolt holding in place while I tighten up the bumper. I've spent several thousand $$$ on this body and paint work and want to keep it up without cracking any glass or paint.

The gaskets are black thin rubber about 1 1/2" wide. Will NOt GLUE MINE. I only glue weather stripping on doors. Like I said I'm not out for points just trying to upgrade something the GM Engr's should have done.grr#33570

Ed, I'm with you. Drive the car and enjoy it. Keep it up and running as it did when new is my thought. The car will look great, but it has to perform to it's rated stature. In my case a B/B 435hp. Looks aren't everything but they sure help when you have people asking questions about the car.grr#33570.
