Hi Rich. My 1970 was sold at A & C, and I'd really appreciate any records your friend may have regarding it. I've sent you an email with my car's info. Thanks, Patrick Moresi #45581

      Hi Patrick,

Thanks, I got your mail. I expect there will be many inquiries like this and I expect I'll be pretty busy when he gets into his records. I'll do my best to try and help anyone with information on their cars, as I would like if I knew where my '59 came from. You never know, it could've been from there too!

Over the next few months when I speak with him I'll ask if copies of any pertinent and non confidential records can be given out to present owners. I really don't know if he would be willing to do that, and if there would be any kind of compensation required. I have to be patient and I must be very cautious about any information he has. Today, unfortunately in some respects, it is very tricky when it comes to this kind of information.

My primary goal is to get a history book of the dealership's Corvette activity along with countless stories he has to tell. If we can get some long sought after data along the ride than even better. We'll see. I'll keep us all posted as time goes by.

I look forward to the article. I really enjoy these type of historical articles where real people tell about real companies and our cars. It would be special if your friend allowed you to use some photos too.

Fwiw, I graduated from the Air Force Academy many moons ago and it was typical for 300-400 Corvettes to be sold by the Chevy dealer in Colorado Springs to the cadets. Made quite a show once we were allowed to own cars and then bring them on base. Everything from the mild to wild.

            Hi Gary,

I'm really looking forward to it too. It'll be fun to be on the other end of the Restorer after about 20 years or so. I know the articles have to be approved first, but due to the content this one hopefully it'll be accepted.

Yes he said he'll be able to get me many photos of the cars for the article. He also told me about the car shows they had there at A&C, many dozens of cars at times. Seems that almost all of the cadets bought or received a new Corvette then. He said there were hundreds and hundreds delivered to them over the years.

              Rich:

I have a 1964 Corvette SN 40867S120157 that was sold to me buy a guy in Newburgh NY... just up the river from Montgomery. I have not been able to trace the vin...... nothing but dead ends. If you get the chance to check.....

Rumor has it my original engine was traded for a "hot rod" engine that came out of a Middletown NY Circle track car. When I bought it, mine had the circle track engine....

Hi Michael, I'm creating a list of requests like yours.

Please send me a separate email with the vehicle info(year, vin, colors, historical info etc) and I'll add it in my 'database', just a email folder for now until I create a searchable file for the info. This'll be a great way to get back into writing Perl scripts to do lookups.(sorry guys, geek talk)

If anyone else has a similar request please do the same. Thanks...

Yes He told me it was close to Newburgh, in fact ironically on our trip to NH this summer we stopped and stayed in Newburgh for an overnight. I must've passed by only a few miles from there. If I knew I'd have swung by for a photo shoot. Maybe if you're in the area some day you could take a few shots of the old A&C building for me. I have a note from Patrick's email that it's now called Marchese Chevrolet. I just did a ggl search and found their web site but no photos of the building.

                Regards,
                Rich

There was an interesting thread a couple months back on an article in the On Solid Ground magazine by Ken Amrick that the body of #2 might have been found (link below). I'd love to hear more on this topic, especially if documentation could be found.

                    Rich,

If he has any info on those "odd" '59s, please get some info so we can add the details to the '59 Registry. Great work!

                    Regards,

                    Jim

                      Hi Loren,

Coincidentaly, I read that thread when it appeared around the time I was in NH and talked to him about it a few days before! It was a little spooky when I read it, sitting there thinking to myself if what he said was factual, and wondering how do I present it. He said his dealership was very big, and the guys at Chevrolet had quite a relationship with him because of his big Corvette sales numbers. One story he told me was that he got a call from them one year(60's I think) and they requested he take a few cars off their inventory. He asked how many and they said some low number, can't recall exactly. He asked how many extra they had and they said around 35 or 40. He said to them, "Send them all". He told me he sold them all before they arrived at the lot! I believed him.

He was pretty convincing it was the '53 but I can't speculate until I get the facts from him. We'll see. I was really hesitant to bring that part up in the thread until I got more info but I opted to bring it out now. I dropped him an email today with some questions but no reply yet. This is a pretty busy time of year for his real estate business, cooler weather, in a lakes region, leaf peepers etc, so he won't be able to get into the boxes of paper in the barn for a while.

You stopped in Newburgh and didn't swing by to say Hello? Shame on you.

Just kidding of course but I live in Newburgh. I also use to work at the bank near Fort Montgomery many years ago. I use to do the loan papers for cadets graduating from West Point and buying all kinds of cars including many Corvettes from the dealership. There was no credit check, no nothing. They got whatever they wanted just by signing on the dotted line. It was hard to keep track of all of it sometimes.

The dealer there now in Fort Montgomery is "Marchese Chevrolet". Don't know if they took over A&C or different franchise, but they have a few Corvettes out front right now.

I wish I knew.:-) Interesting coincedences all around. No credit checks? Funny how things have changed.

Marchese Chevrolet is now owned by Larry Marchese who used to be a GM at B.F. Curry Chevrolet in Yorktown Heights, NY which is across the river from the old AC store. The Curry family of dealerships was one of Chevrolet largest dealers in the 50's, 60's, and 70's and a a big seller of Corvettes especially from their Scarsdale, NY store. Between these stores they sold a ton of Corvettes. Marchese is currently one of the main sponsors for the weekly Bear Mt. cruise on Wednesday nights at the Bear Mt State Park. It is a very large cruise night with sometimes upward of 800 cars from NY, NJ, and CT on a nice night in the summer. Definitelt worth a stop if you are ever in the area.
