C2 63 Park Brake Cable Cross Member holes

I'm working on the park brake cables where they pass through the frame to the equalizer.
First problem, Hole on rear of frame crossmember for outside left park cable is 7/8 in diameter. Appears to big to retain cable clips won't grab. Inside hole is about 1/2 diameter and cable for right rear fits good and the clips grab. Both cables are the same size so I think the holes should be the same. As this is a new frame was it drilled wrong or am I doing something wrong here. I've looked through all my books and there no pictures that are helping. Anyone able to tell me what size these holes should be.
Any help on this would be great.
    Thanks Mike

    Mike,

I am not near my car to double check but I believe one cable snaps in and the other is retained by a clip that is similar to the clips that hold the brass brake blocks to the frame. This type of clip also holds the emergency brake cable in the engine compartment where it comes through the firewall.

As I recall it fits loose and there was a service paper to install a 1/4" bolt to retain this clip from falling out so the 7/8" hole may be correct.

Tim, The AIM shows the clip but its on the cable with the 1/2 in. hole. It just dosen't look like the holes in the cross member should be a different sizes as the cable ends that secure them in the cross member are the same on each cable.
Unless the one cable does not snap into the frame. I don't see how this would work. Mike

Mike , I will look when I get home today. I still have my original cables downstairs so I may be able to get a picture of the ends where they go into the crossmember so you can compare. I can also check my frame and let you know of the holes are as you describe.

Tim, That will be a great help. The cables I have should be correct, they came from Bairs. The size of the frame holes would be great. Left and right cable holes and also cross member front side if different size then the back holes.
          Thanks Mike

Answer from Vette Products on hole size

I'm not sure where the frame was bought, I didn't buy this frame just working on it. Vette Products answered my questions here is what they said.
            Mike,

The holes on the front side of the crossmember are 7/8in and the holes on the back side of the crossmember are 1/2 in. The front side being to the front of the car and back side being to the rear of the car.
            Thanks, Vette Products
This means 2 holes were drilled improperly. I'll have to some mig welding or fix the oversize hole somehow.

Re: C2 63 Park Brake Cable Cross Member holes

Tim If possible a picture of where the first clamp is located for the right hand park brake cable would be great if you could get one for me. All the gas and brake line frame holes were not drilled and tap in this new frame. I would like to see how this clamp mounts as its close to the brake line that runs across in the same area.
              Thanks Mike

Mike, I will get pictures ASAP, I believe the holes in the fromt of the crossmember are larger for a rubber boot, I will send picture of that also. Tim

The last two are of the ends on the original cables. I don't know why one has a flat washer and one has the clip but that's the way the GM replacement cables are, I purchased the new GM parts in 1980. Hope this helps

Mike, I just measured the front hole. 3/4 of an inch. I'm missing one rubber boot so it was easy to measure.
