    63 oil leak

My rebuilt 63/340hp has developed an oil from what looks like a press fit plug, top left rear of the block just under the rear of the cylinder head. The plug is actually only half covered by the head and near the intake manifold as well. Looks like the only way to remove and replace is to remove the head. Are there any other suggestions I might try to stop the leak? Thanks

    Re: 63 oil leak

    Jim,

I just encountered a lady today with an oil leak; actually it was her car.

Her solution was to not add oil until it quit leaking. She didn't want oil on her garage floor.

She was asking what the engine noise is......

So that is one solution, just don't add oil and it will eventually quit leaking.

The other solution is to remove the head and replace the plug.

Verle, my ex wife tried the no oil option on the restored Mercedes 1968 280S she got in the settlement. True, it didn't leak a drop of oil , but did she complain that it made a lot of noise then "just stopped" and what was I going to do about it? Yes, that it made it somewhat all worthwhile.
