    62 Restoration Sources

I just picked up a 62 in boxes and beginning to assess what needs to be done to put it back to rights. I've done a few C2's and C3's but this is my first C1 so will definately need a little info.

Some of the obvious stuff such as Chrome and Trim I have sources to send to restore. But a couple of new ones that I was wondering options where to send (if they can be restored) are:

The complete gauge cluster. There are several chips/cracks near the lip of the back housing. Can this be repaired and if so where? I also want to have teh gauges cleaned up, tested, and if possible, the chrome trim rings looking better.

The windshield frame is not bad but the upper and lower corner pieces are pitted. They look to be chromed versus the other stainless trim pieces but perhaps I'm mistaken on that. Funny that just the corners are pitted. Anyway, where can these be done (same as the chrome?).

The center heater/vent control panel and the curved passenger dash panel. Are these restorable or just replace?

I have the 4 original 2-bar spinner hubcaps. Anyone doing these?

Are 62 wheels the same as other C1s. I have just about everything except wheels so am in need of 5 steel wheels.

More questions to come but wanted to get some feedback on these items.

    Thanks in advance,

    Joe..

ps: I ordered the JG and AIM.

    Joe

Welcome to the old timers world. I'll try to answer your questions but their are always more than one place to have things done. A good place to start is looking in the Driveline.
    1. The gauge cluster is metal ans can be repaired, this I would do myself, the gauges themselves and the chrome rings, check Roger Scott (561-691-2905) or Corvettes Specialties of Maryland.
    2. Chrome Plating- Frankfort Plating 215-288-4518 or Paul's Plating 1-800-245-7679 are both really good.
3.Center heater panel probably needs replaced, don't know anyone who restores these but many somebody else does.
4.Hubcaps, you don't say what is wrong with them, they can be polished out.
5.The wheels are welded, not riveted like some early wheels.Swap meets, local car events E-Bay etc.
    Hope this helps
    Terry

            Thanks guys.

And would anyone if the entire windshield frame is stainless or are the corners actually chrome plated?

End pieces are like door posts--chromed cast pieces. The upper and lower centers are stainless, as you surmised.
Joe--I'd appreciate it if you would send me any original dated pieces that are with the car. I have over 700 62's in my files, and always like to add dates on components from unrestored cars.
              Thanks,
              Mike Ernst

Mike- Pictures or just written info

                Mike,

I assume you mean just drop you a note with a list of parts that have date codes and what they are right?

                Joe..
