    c3-71-Hood Release cable snapped -help

Went to open my hood this morning, pulled on the released from a standing position and flew backwards with the release in my hand and what appeared to be a very skinny wire attached to it.

I am going to look at the manuals and will get the partto get part but my question is - how do I open the hood now to install again? Are there any tricks to this?

Please help and be explicit as I am not the most astute car tinkerer mechanically.

    Thanks in advance

    Peter

    Peter,

This has happened to quite a few of the '68 thru '72 owners that frequent the Corvette Forum. They usually take the side louver vent grille out and use their hand, sticking their arm as far up as they can or a stick or rod and push the latch lever sideways to activate it and release.

      Peter,

The designers actually planned for events like this. You need to take off the vent screen that covers your windshield wiper door. On the passenger side fire wall, about 6 inches from the fender, up toward the top there is a grommet that can be pulled or pushed out. With the grommet removed you have access to the hood release latch and can use a medium size screw driver to release the hood latch that is also connected to the driver side latch. It should open with no problem. Hope this helps.
