    C1 Door Molding

    Hi -

Can some one advise me here please. What is the correct way to install the door window felt (inner and outer)to the post assembly? I see the felt is stapled to the inner and outer reveal molding - but exactly how is the felt held in place when it reaches the window post? Surely its not glued?

    Thanks - again.

As I remember the felts are held on to the reveal moldings by the staples exclusively. They are attached to the post assembly by inserting a curved prong on the front of the felt into the stainless molding that is part of the door post. The post felts and round female stainless molding recepticles come attached to a steel u channel which is held to the posts with screws and rivets. The staples and felts are available from Corvette suppliers. Once you establish the position of the new felts on the reveal moulding you can drill small holes in the felts and insert the staples. Staples are then bent with pliers. Positioning the door felts fore and aft on the molding is critical to inserting the front of the door felts into the post molding. It is a time consuming job but can be done with some patience. The AIM Manual will show a picture of the assembly.

Mark, I agree with Greg. When you attach the felts to the outer reveal molding and inner garnish molding, make sure the steel bead of the felt is not below the edge of the molding. You should also be attentive to this when you insert the bead prong into the felt in the door post channel. Make sure the bead is not below the curve in the door post. If you are not careful with the bead, the windows may bind in the felts resulting in scratches to the stainless frames and damage to the felts.

Thanks for the reply. So looking at the picture. Does the end of the silver trim (at the end of the reveal molding) slip/slide in to the trim on the post Or am I missing something?

        I really appreciate your help.

While your picture did not appear, your description is correct. The bead on the felt attached to the moldings should slide inside the bead on the posts.
