I have a steering box with a metal tag thats attached to the side cover. It reads 151 0. Is this the build date.

Was always wondering about tag dating
Below is a GM OTC steering gear assy. and the tag reads 29_9. So I guess that means 29th January 1969. That also jives with the GM blue and white sticker on the box (Group 6.508) part #7808927 with a B9 code, which might mean Feb 1969.
This part # is what I find in my 1970 P&A30B (Rev 1-1-70) as applicable for '63 thru '69 Corvettes, with a change to #7807769 for 1970 Corvettes; I wonder why the change ?
But why did the '63-69 part # change so radically from 1969 P&A30 Rev 7-1-69 where it shows as #5677642 ? [the '65 AIM shows one digit less @ 5677641, but that might have been for steering box PLUS coupler].

Re: Was always wondering about tag dating
Wayne don't know the actual reason for the change, however my 68 original owner has cast iron top on the steering gear and my original owner 70 has an aluminum top. I am going to have to check to see if there is a tag on my 68, but pretty sure there is no tag on my 70. Will verify later.- Top
