63 tire/wheel valve

Was there anything special about 1963 vintage wheel valves ? Can I use current, new style valves or do I have to find "correct" valves when I have my new, radial, vintage tires mounted ? (Ordered at Diamond Back) Using standard wheels. I know about the valve caps, but nothing about the valves...

Rainer, There were two different length valve stems used. The later KO's used one that was about 1/4" shorter than the steel rims. You need ones that are about 1-1/2 long when installed.That's measuring them without the valve cap on. If you have trouble finding them call me as I have a few extra you can have for free as this ain't ebay you know. John

Thanks, John. During my search, found that LIC carries them. Ordered them about 2 hours ago,among other things, only LIC carries, before I read your post.

Got my Fuelie motor running pretty good after fixing the out-of-flatness of the doghouse mounting surface. I still have a bit of a problem with the idle, I think it's due to the incorrect vacuum advance can. Using a 236, which is for 64's. Should be using a B21, I think. What do you use on your 63 distributer ?
Can't wait to see what the tires from Diamond Head look like. Should have them in a couple weeks.

Rainer, For my show car it has an original 201 vacuum advance.It holds vacuum good but it could crap out at any time since it is old as the hills. Good for showing though. Lots of guys used to think that the 163 was the correct one- that's the last 3 #'s of the part number. Chevy sold those over the counter. But they weren't any good as the spring was tooo tough. A lot of the 163's were reboxed B1's and not worth a crap. You said B21? Try B22 instead. You may have the wrong number. I don't know of a B21. It's B22 for the Duntov 097. The 30-30 used the B28 or the 236-16. Make sure you have the #37 weights and correct springs and of course the correct distr cam if you are going all stock. Don't forget to put new oil seals in for sure or you will be an unhappy camper. John

Thanks for the corection, It's B 22 I was refering to. I pulled the cam specs and will study them to see what cam I had installed...Its a Comp Cam part # 12-000-5.

Rainer. I didn't explain my self good enough as usual. I meant the distributor cam not the camshaft. Course the camshaft plays a major part in the whole deal.
Where is the LT1 guy been? Where's Duke??? John

John, I understood you correctly, that I should have the correct dist cam, as well as the right springs on the c-wheights. And, the camshaft also plays a roll. I have the specs out, Its been so long, since I had my engine rebuild, at which time the cam was discussed here and with my engine builder.
I have to check, which way I went at that time. I was never a good automotive engine man to know all the different conditions that come into play, when selecting components and their relationships.
I am beginning to find out, what all the things do, and not..
