    58 Corvette Survivor

Just bought a 58 with 2300 documented miles. Would like to get it judged in Waco this October as an original car. My question is "Do I have to have the car titled in my name to have it judged?". The registration is still in the name of the owner from 1961. This is a really nice car and a real find. I think people will enjoy seeing this car. It has been in a controlled environment and looks brand new. I would post some pics if I knew how. Email if you want some pics of the car. Does anyone know if there is a straight axle with less miles?

    Thanks

Jeremy - I, for one, would really look forward to seeing your car in Waco. Sounds like a real find.

Per NCRS Judging Reference Manual.....All cars must be entered and shown in the name of and by, the car's legally-registered owner. To me, that means it needs to be titled in your name.

I took an unrestored, non-roadworthy 1966 that I had just pulled out of the original owner's field and we pushed it onto the show field in Waco a few years back. In Texas, I was able to transfer the title only by signing a form indicating the car was not to be used on the roads. I also took out an inexpensive "fire & theft" insurance policy to show insurance on the car.

The title transfer and fire & theft coverage got the car in my name and provided coverage during the 3 year restoration process. Once the car was roadworthy, I got it safety inspected, full insurance coverage, and completed the Texas "vehicle registration process".

Hope to see you in Waco, Tim

Jeremy..congratulations on your survivor find. Make sure you get every piece of document available, family photo's etc and do it now before time passes by.

Take as many close up detail pictures of the car as you can for history.

You are now the custodian of something very special. I would to like see some pictures.

If you cant get it in your name in time take it any way as a display to show people an ORIGINAL 58.
Most people know a bout the big items but the little items that separator a correct 58 is hard to find. .

I assume you're talking about the Star/Bowtie program and not Flight Judging. If so, the actual judging is done only at the National meets. Next one is in St. Louis in July 2008. Having said that, the car does need to be 'signed off' prior to the National and the best place to do that is at a Regional.

You may want to contact the host chapter for the Waco meet and discuss your exact plans for the car.

The car has to be first judged at a regional. At that time the judging teams and the leader will recommend or not that the car be approved for Star/ Bowtie judging at the next national.

Any car brought to an NCRS meet must be titled to the person presenting it. All judging criteria is spelled out in THE JUDGING REFERENCE MANUALl available from the office in Cincinnati.

How is the "titled to the person presenting it" verified? It's been a long time since I had several cars flight judged and PV'd, but I don't recall being asked for that type of documentation........... 'course maybe all that's changed since then.

Insurance and reregistration must be in members name. Sounds like a flip in progress rack up awards and call it a one owner by keeping the reg in the original owners name till the sale.

                  Re: 58 Corvette Survivor

This question is for the masses...........

Some states, like New Hampshire, do not require a vehicle to be titled. I bought my 59 over 20 years ago and it was never titled in NH. Therefore in my case a title is unobtainable.

Now, I read the manual as saying "legally-registered". So my registration would count as proof of ownership. Ok, now here's the caveat.........

If I want to have my 62 judged, but I don't have a title, and I don't have it registered, but can prove I'm the owner and have proper proof of liability coverage, and trailer it to a judged event, can I participate?

                    Misspoken policy...

Some in this thread have paraphrased the actual NCRS policy regarding ownership using the term 'title'. Let's look at the actual wording of the rule. From the NCRS Judging Reference Manual, Section 2, Rule 1:

"NCRS Flight Judging is presently open to any 1953 through 1982 productin Chevrolet Corvette as long as the owner(s) is an NCRS member in good standing. The vehicle must be entered and shown in the name of, and by, the owner/member and proof of ownership, shuch as state vehicle registration or a copy of the ownership title, must be available for confirmation...."

The operative is OWNERSHIP with a State issued title being just one of the ways to prove overship. By the way, I note Roy Sinor probably needs to do some housekeeping here as we've been Flight Judging Corvettes newer than 1982 for a reasonable period of time now...

Rich, "proof of ownership" is the key word. As long as you can do so, you should have no problems
