    93 ZR-1 PV Instructions

I am driving my 93 Ruby to Leavenworth, Wa. next week. I am submitting the car for flight judging. My next Regional will be in May 08, at Denver. There, I want to have the car PV'D. How long will it be before the PV Instructions are published. The Judging Manual just came out, and I think after this flight judging the manual may have some changes and new photos.

I don't know when the PV manual will come out, but when I PV'd my '89, the resource I used was the owners manual. I bought a spare (Ebay-$10.00) and just checked out the functions per the expected operations in the owners manual. For more details, a service manual also provides more in-depth descriptions. Good luck with your car!

      Thanks Bill,
I heard that one of the big problems in the PV was with the gas arms that raise the rear glass. At the Las Vegas Regional someone stated that when you actuate the release latch, the units have to raise all the way to the top, without assistance. You won't find things like that in the owners manual. I have every document printed about the 93 ZR-1, and the C-4, since I am going from a 1957 Duntov car to a computer monster. I will look through them and make up my own PV instructions if the manual is not available. Appreciate all info, if you don't ask you won't learn.

Yes, a fresh set of gas rods is generally in order, I made the assumption when mine did not go up all the way that they would not fly and changed them out. I agree you have to make some assumptions as to what proper operation is, but that one was (I thought) pretty easy. One other suggestion is that you might want to observe a PV being performed on a C-4 when you are at the show you mentioned. If you have never run a car thru a PV before, The manual may be a help when available, but if you have done a PV on a non-C4 in the past, you should be pretty much up on the process. I found it hadn't changed much since I did my '65 in '88. One C-4 trip up item is the ability to locate and release the rear hatch from inside the car. The manual describes the process, but the little cable that has to be located and pulled is not always easy to find without some preperation.

In a discussion with Gary Mortimer, it is my understanding that the PV manual covering the 1990-93 model years will be available within 30 days.

Ed, Your team leader told me a lot of the late C4 owners that he has PVed just don't know the cars. Course that is why you asked about the manual but I wouldn't rely on just a manual. Talk to Tom Barr also. I would say the owners manual and even the shop manual would be the best to use.

My old C4 was one of the first in NCRS to be practiced on for judging at a Pittsburgh Chapter judging school. Thanks to Tom Barr and others we started the ball rolling. Thing I remember the most is that it took a magician to find the engine pad numbers on my May 83 car. Also no one could find the paint code either (except Tom) As the early C4's are on their own. Good luck, John
