I'm trying to come up with an air cleaner for my 57 FI unit (4520). I'm thinking I need to go with a reproduction, but I'm not sure what there is out there. I heard about a guy named David Crane, but I also heard I should be wary (like Goat Hill wary). Do any of you know where a good safe (and accurate) place to look might be? Any help is appreciated.

Re: 57 FI Air Cleaner
Saw one on e-bay yesterday. I'd start with contacting Gary Pronesti 407-464-1959, cell 352-638-5778 and see what he has or can get for you. There are things to check on the repo's to make sure they're correct such as the tab on the bottom and screen on the top. Send me an e-mail if you want photos of an original air cleaner. Good luck, Gary....NCRS Texas Chapter

Re: 57 FI Air Cleaner
HI Ashley, Basically there are about two repros on the market. One has the all famous tab and one doesn't. The tab is close to the original design but dedectable. Only a limited number of repros were made with this tab and therefore the part is quite pricey. The other repro is the same deal-same manufacturer but lacks the tab and is 1/2 the price.
I agree 100% with Gary Chestnut. Call Pronesti Classics (Gary) at 407-464-1959.
Fax: 407-889-0322. Pronesti is one of the good old boys. Started out in Syracuse, NY with 57 steel Chevy's parts. Then he decided to move to FL and went into partnership with someone. Now he is back out on his own. Right before Corvette Carlisle he must have mailed a 100 plus tea shirts to his dealers and friends so we could wear them during the show. I used mine to sleep in instead but don't tell him. You will enjoy working with Pronesti as he is one of a kind. Been my friend for 25 plus years. Take care, John D.
NAPA has a wonderful cheap air cleaner element for the 57's. #2122. Black and a little thicker than the AC 176C. Less than 20 bucks. Better than paying five grand for a NOS blue one. I move a lot of those #2122 (wix) but feel quilty as the part is readily available on your own for peanuts.- Top

Re: 57 FI Air Cleaner
John,
I've been trying to get that air filter you mentioned. I'm having trouble getting a match. I went to my NAPA store, and the one he got for me looks more like a truck air filter. It is around 12" across, so I don't think it is the right one. Can you offer any further info?

Re: 57 FI Air Cleaner
Ashley, Your NAPA store made an error or you gave them the incorrect number.
NAPA 2112. Empty box only measures 7 x 7 x 3". Basically it's the same size as an AC 176C.
GO to ANY auto parts store that sells elemens and give them AC 176C and have them transpose the number for you. Don't do it with a Fram as it is typically orange. NAPA Good I believe is Wix.
Ashley right before Corvette Carlisle I got 4 of the 2112's with no problem. If you have any other problems email me. Thanks, John- Top

Re: 57 FI Air Cleaner
John,
I just found it. I was looking for a 2122 instead of a 2112. This puts me in good shape. I really appreciate your help.

Re: 57 FI Air Cleaner
HI Roy, Nice louvred air cleaner. Show off. Yea I guess I will never live long enough to own one of those. Beautiful part for sure. Don't know about the wing nut though. Nice pic Roy.
I remember in the late 90's Jack Podell had a NOS one for sell at he old Cypress Gardens meet. One of my friends bought it and kept it in a safe. Well he died a few years ago and his estate sold it so that's the end of that one. I have a nice pic of it here hanging in the garage. You hardly ever see a 57 showcar with one of those one. So many restored FI cars need that air cleaner. but their chances of finding one are slim today. Thanks, John- Top
