I hope and pray that our NCRS friends that stay at the fairgrounds are OK. A lot were in the low lying area.

      Re: Carlisle Nightmare !!!

I left the fairgrounds yesterday with my rig around 3:00PM. At that time it was 99 degrees and I was half dead from the heat. Then I drove an 1-1/2 east to visit my son who just started college.
On the way back from his school I encountered a storm like no other in many years. Most of the cars pulled off the interstate as trees were coming down and the highway was a mess. I was heading back toward Carlisle following the big rigs at 35 mph in all wheel drive. I said I was lucky to get out of the show and now I am shocked at what happened. What a tragedy and loss to all. So sorry to hear about the fatality (heresay). God Bless.

        Re: Carlisle Nightmare !!!

I drove my '57 280 miles round trip to Carlisle and back. I parked in the Fun Show right next to the '57 Reunion Tent, with the other 57's and other C-1s. We left earlier than usual around 3:30 pm, just worn down from the intense heat. It took until after 4 to clear out of town after a stop at Sheetz and the awfully timed traffic signals in downtown Carlisle. Heading down Rt 15, the dark weather moving in from the West was downright scary. There were very high winds buffeting us at times and we caught a little rain, but were able to turn East and barely outrun the storm. All in all, I am glad that I got the car to the 50th reunion - but it sure is sad to hear of the potential damage to the wonderful cars in the 57 tent, and all the cars and fairgrounds in general.

              David,
You must have been parked by me. I had the Cascade Green F.I. car next to the tent. I drove in from the Jersey shore (380 mile round trip) and left around 6 PM. Stopped for dinner about 15 miles down the turnpike and got hit with heavy winds and rain but no damage. Most of the ride home was through rain and wind which stopped just before crossing the bridge into New Jersey. It was nasty all right! I hope no one was seriously hurt, cars can be fixed, after all that's what we do. One final comment, It was HOTTTTTTTTT

                Rich,

Mine (Black with Red interior) was directly across from your beautiful '57. Congrats on driving even further than I did! The Red with white coves '57 next to me from Kansas City has logged over 23,000 miles since restoration! Nice to meet so many nice folks there, and to see some C-1s really getting driven.

I took a very short movie (10 seconds) of the row of 57s outside the tent which includes your car if you want me to send it via email.

                  David,
That would be great. I brought a camara but was so busy looking at straight axles that I didn't get any pictures. The black 57 next to me was my friend Lou, we caravened out and back together. He's owned that one for 45 years and still drag races it almost every weekend. There are still an enormous number of these cars being driven on a regular basis. Greta fun. Rich # 2262
