You shouldn't hesitate posting the name of the business, particularly if he advertises in Driveline. I would inform him that if you don't receive a full refund in 7 days, you'll do just that. Sounds like the only way he'll respond is to let him know he will lose future business as a result of negative feedback. You can do it in a tactful manner, but by all means let him know it's to his advantage to take care of you. Regarding legal advice, you can check on google to see what's required in your area for small claims court, but I suspect you would have to show up in person, which he knows you probably wouldn't do. Your real leverage here is your ability to effect future business for him with your feedback. This is another example of why businesses advertising in Driveline should be excluded if reported to excercise poor practice. They should lose the privelage of being able to reach so many potential, ncrs customers. Good Luck...- Top

You should check to see if he is at Carlisle this weekend. It would be worth satisfaction to confront him face to face. If he doesn't come across with the cash you could always tell everyone who approaches his booth what he has done. Either that or bring a big friend. That might encourage him to reach into his pocket. He should have plenty of cash at Carlisle.
Its cheaper and faster than going legal.- Top

OK Call of the Dogs!
As luck would have it a refund check was in the mail today fully six months and two weeks after my initial order was placed and nearly a month after I asked for the refund. It was postmarked Wednesday 22 which was the last time I spoke to the vendor.
And to Tony, I did think about finding him at Carlisle. I was there yesterday and the first thing I did was to search the vendor listing in the program. But he was not listed so maybe that was a good thing for both of us as I would not have believed him if he again told me that the check was in the mail.
Now that this has been resolved I will reveal the vendor's name for the sake of others. I have heard that his quality is good and the price is the best, but all say that his delivery time is terrible. So Caveat Emptor to all but I will never, ever again deal with Romeo Engineering. I am just happy to have my money back. Now I have to bring myself to spend that and more on a new set. And to think I missed the "show specials" by one day!- Top

I was up at Carlisle yesterday and I just checked in the Event Vendor Directory and they are not listed as being there. Goat Hill Classics is there though!- Top

I had a similar nightmare with Romeo Engineering involving a carpet set for my 1969 coupe. I waited for nearly 5 months for the carpet, calling periodically to see what was the hold up. Finally when it arrived the carpet was the wrong color saddle. Rather than fart around with them anymore, and since they assured me it was the correct color, I posted it for sale on one of the Corvette sites and sold it for what I paid (minus the shipping).
It seems like a real fly-by-night operation as each time I would call I'd get some guy with a rough voice who sounded like he was working from his garage or something.- Top

For future reference, in the event of a dispute it is always preferable to have a local (to the vendor) attorney send a certified letter indicating your intention to file complaints with BBB, local law enforcement, mail fraud charges, etc...and to file suit if the issue is not immediatley resolved. In most instances, a well written letter will get a response, unless the vendor is going under, in which case it won't matter anyway.

He needs to hire a competent customer service representative. His life and those of his customers would be a lot better off if he did.- Top

Goat Hill was listed in the vendor directory, but they were not in their usual spot, which was used by others for vehicle parking. If they were there, at all, it was someplace that I never passed by.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I had the exact same experience with them on my '69 coupe. It took almost a year of phone calls and promises to get the carpet. The only saving thing about the deal is that the carpet is top quality and it has the "Imco" mark om the vinyl heal pad.

this is one thing about ventors in this hobby
why do they take on more work than they can handle. you see them at places like carlisle looking for more customers and they are way behind on the work they already have. when i built engines i knew how many i could get done in a certain time frame,by the next racing season, and i told other people that they would have to go to some other engine builder if they wanted to race this year.- Top

it's because their buisness is based on the 'bow wave' model (rob Peter, to pay Paul). They fall behind in doing restoration number one for one of many reasons (they under estimated the time/effort, got side tracked by the guy who came in the door needing service/repair RIGHT NOW or he'd find somebody else) and run out of working capital.
Soooo, the answer is to book another client, use his 'front money' from restoration #2 to complete job #1. But, the sequence almost never ends UNLESS they run into a string of cars they can either cut corners on to complete OR get 'lucky' with a few jobs that actually take less time/$$$ to do than they estimated.
Bottom line, when picking someone to turn-key a restoration, ask your local NCRS chapter members for their 'off the record' views/experiences with that vendor/shop BEFORE you commit your car and $$$.... Once she's torn down with work in progress, you're virtually a 'prisoner' there.- Top
