Headers for '69 SBC w/side exhaust

I plan to do some auto crossing with my '69 small block convertible and was curious if anyone knows of a header that will fit the factory side exhaust without cutting the existing pipe.

"Headers by Ed" in MN will custom fabricate a set for the bargain price of $1500 and Hedman's "side exhaust" headers won't fit the factory pipes. I've seen the Hooker side exhaust kits, but want to retain the stock pipes & covers.

    Hi Brett:

This has been through this mill before and quite a bit of calling around produced no results, while there used to be a couple of benders who made these they are no more to the best of my knowledge.

Brett, Whatever power you gain by the addition of headers will likely be lost again by running through the stock sidepipe muffler. These units, although they look great, are far from being efficiant from a performance standpoint. You would be much better off with the Hooker Headers.

Brett, don't make a mess out a free flow exhaust you know have. I too have been looking for the same. But no longer.

I drew up some drawings but this header system just won't work on your SB or my BB effeciently. Instant bends. It used to be a rule to run a certain distance from the tubed header collector to the muffler due to back pressure build up. I can't remember it right now. But think about it, instant back pressure and louder exhaust system than a state trooper might like, or maybe a neighborhood.

Keep as much stock or original stuff on your car. I dropped by a local corvette parts house today and they had a corvette club or a lot of owners of various years from 78 up there for a get together. No mid-years,or even close in sight anywhere. It's rare to see solid axle cars and mid-years anymore.grr#33570
