C3/C2 California Yellow on Black Plates

California Assembly Bill AB462 continues its way through the process. This law will allow year appropriate plates to be used on 63-69 cars for an additional registration fee. Existing law allows 1962 and earlier cars to use year appropriate plates. Won't be effective until July 1, 2009.

If passed, this will soon open a market for used California plates. Has anyone tried restamping a plate? I know the original plate number of my 1969 and have purchased a used plate that is close but I was thinking it would be even better to restamp it with the correct letters and numbers.

The State of New York that allows the use of "VINTAGE PLATES" dosen't allow the use of altered plates. They must be original issue Dept. of Motor Vehicle plates. According to the rules they state that the plates aren't even permitted to be restored,but it is quite obvious that this is done. They require a photo of the plate set ,if it is a two plate year, and the plate month of issue tag if required. Is California as restrictive or are repro plates permitted ?

cal law will not permit any modified cal plates---how ever,one could order a personal plate set then order from (licenseplates.tv) a plate to match the personalised cal plate,only hic-up is they will not ship to cal so you will have to use your imagination on shipping---i have the original registration and all subsequent regs.) and plates(blue with yellow letters)and dmv will not let me use them on my 72 lt1 as the car went out of state for 1 year and then came back---go figure---off the subject,i'm near the point on my 67 to restore the dash and plan on using al k interior paint to color the dash pads---question 1 paint the dash and pads as an assembly the same color(bright blue) or ??question 2 are there better products from other vendors that someone has used or would reccommend---
off the vet subject was there a copo 68 427 nova built?

Something to keep in mind, California used the same Alpha Numeric pattern from the 56-62 "Yellow" plates on the next series "Black" plates. This means the pattern that you want to use may already be registered and active (example - "ABC 123" was used on both Yellow and Black plates). CA DMV can tell you if a pair is clear or CSAA which has shorter lines. Paying big bucks for an unusable pair of plates would ruin my day!
