      PS

this is not a do it yourself job and it will not protect against large heavy objects like rocks or metal.

I looked on the net and all the parts houses for a C2 front nose protection/cleartastic type. Could not find one. Hard to believe. I emailed Cleartastic about this subject and have not heard back. DG

Me too Clem. I have seen several C6s with it and it looks good.

3M and VentureShield are other manufacturers. All the posts seem to indicate that the skill of the installer is all important. One would probably have to have a custom install for a C2 -- I would be surprised if thee are pre-cut kits for one.

I used this type product on my Lacquer painted 63 and it lifted the paint OFF to the amount of over $3,000 of damage to repair!!! "DO NOT put anything on lacquer paint or else" said my painter. Lacquer paint is thermoplastic and reflows with heat from setting in the sun. You have all been warned if you use any plastic covering on LACQUER paint. FWIW Jim

I also had paint lift on my deck lid using the clear film that is supposed to protect from soft or hardtop weatherstrip wear. Also if water or moisture gets under the strip and it is not removed fairly quick the sun will bleach the lacquer paint. The bleaching will eventually go away after a few weeks of exposure to the sun, WITHOUT the film on the affected area.

Thanks for the input. I plan to put it on the 2007. Getting it off in 15 years for NCRS judging is going to be our son's problem.

I plan to put it on the 2008. I am not going to worry about getting it off either. I'm not even worried who is involved in that.

As per March 2007 "Motorhome" magazine, there are two suppliers - 3M (888)3M-HELPS www.3m.com or VentureShield (866) 211-TAPE WWW.VENTURESHIELD.COM Both sell film used to protect the slab sided front of RV's.

"3M film is made of a layer of urethane, topped by a clear coat that protects the film from scratches and fading. In total, the film is about 8 mils thick or roughly the thickness of two or three sheets of paper."

The article discusses it is applied like window tint but neither company offered a D-I-Y kit at the time of writing.

"It was originally developed in the 1960s as a solution to damage being inflicted on helicopter rotor blades". ".....you can treat it just like a paint surface. You can run it through a carwash and wax it just like normal." ".....dirt and moisture cannot get underneath them."

"3M offers a five year warranty on its product while VentureShield recently upped the ante with a lifetime warranty against yellowing and cracking"

"Using the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)J400 Gravelometer test, where gravel with an average diameter of 1/2 inch was fired at a test panel with an estimated velocity of 30 to 60 mph, the unprotected panel was riddled with chips, where the 3M protect strip came out unscathed."

if you have a light colored car the edges will

turn darker because the exposed glue edge will collect dirt. if you have a dark colored car keep the wax away from the edge because it will lighten up because the wax will stick to the exposed glue edge.

Clem, will have to defer to your experience since I was merely quoting the sales pitch offered in the magazine. Don't know $--t from housepaint in this matter. You should see my house !
