1959 Corvette Sports Car Equipment Guide

I just realized that Chevrolet did not copyright the 1959 Corvette Sports Car Equipment Guide. This guide focuses on how to tune and prepare a 59 (really 56 to 59) Corvette for competitive driving. Great stuff. 24 pages of info. Topics include fuel injection, racing brakes, race preparation, double clutching, and many others.

A 6.8mb PDF file download is available on my website. The link appears below.

You might want to read up on Copyright Law. Just because there is no C in a Circle doesn't mean it isn't copyrighted. This is a big fallacy of the Internet as people steal pictures and text from website after website.

Thanks, but I am going to quibble a bit.

Pre-1978 copyright law required an affirmative notice to protect a published work. Most used the C in the Circle. Absent an affirmative notice - no copyright.

Federal law changed in 1978 and then again in 1989 to provide for an automatic copyright. No C in the Circle is required.

If you read the link you attached to you post, you can track the federal history. But the link doesn't really focus on what happens under pre-78 law.

I found a relevant quote in the link attached to Craig's message:

"NOTE: Before 1978, federal copyright was generally secured by the act of publication with notice of copyright, assuming compliance with all other relevant statutory conditions. U. S. works in the public domain on January 1, 1978, (for example, works published without satisfying all conditions for securing federal copyright under the Copyright Act of 1909) remain in the public domain under the 1976 Copyright Act."

From what I can tell, Chevrolet was inconsistent in its use of the Copyright notice in the mid-50's. Chevrolet protected some stuff but not everything.

Russ, thanks for the post, especially the 59 manual. It gave clarification to adjusting the throttle linkage on a 2 x 4 carb setup that I was unaware existed. Mark

                  Bob Clift

Perhaps it should be noted that the picture on page 3 of SCEG shows the late Bob Clift at the wheel, a notable developmental engineer for bothe GM and the Bricklin.

It is not the same shot of Bob as the on the cover of The Corvette
Restorer, Vol # 15, #4, but it would seem that were both taken in the same photo session.

That issue is a Supplement to Volume 2 #2 Corvette News. It is the first of 4 Supplements and should be part of every corvette news Collection. They are actually fairly rare, informative and collectable.
