    C-3 454 plugs and cap

You know last week I put in new points and set the dwell. I still have a slight misfire more like a real light surge when I am driving. I did not change the cap just put in a new rotor and points and new wires and fuel filter in. the plugs should have about 3k miles on them they were AC Delco r43ts. Should I put in new plugs and a new cap? Thanks

Anyone using the Bosch platinum 4 plugs in a 454, and if so how do you like then and how well do they perform?

the more ground electrodes you have the more chance you have of creating a hot spot causing pre ignition

What about the AC Delco platinum plugs would they last longer in the car with just the standard ignition?

these older engines do not operate as clean as the newer engines so i do not think these plugs will last any longer than standard plug. theses new type plugs are designed to last longer because the material used in the electrodes will last longer, will not burn away as fast. it has nothing to do with plug fouling

              you pegged that one Clem

Yes Clem, you nailed that one on the head.... Those new plugs make no difference with a carburated engine.

Ok so I want get any more mileage out of a set of platinum plugs. And you say go to a hotter plug for the street, then would that be a R44TS for a LS-5? I was just trying to avoid changing the plugs out so often, especially the ones under the AC compressor. Those two a real pain to get at. Now who makes the AC Delco plugs? Do they still make spark plugs? Did they let that part of the business go and someone else makes the plugs and they just re-box them also like the other AC Delco parts?

if you are not into chasing NCRS points and your car does not already have a electronic ignition system i would install a MSD box because it will keep the plugs cleaner at low RPMs because of the multi spark feature below 3000 RPMs. to keep from "baking" on the low speed deposits on the plugs always take the RPMs up to max at part throttle to clean off the plugs. this always worked for me with BBCs

What about the AC Delco rapid-fire would they have any benefits over a standard R44TS plug.

never tried rapid fire plugs. use a R45 TS not a 44 because the extended tip is cooled buy the fuel wash in a BBC
