    Build Sheet Code ??

I found the following code on a '73 build sheet in the fourth column:
    ZP2 TR/CLH & RIDE

Does anyone know what option or equipment it refers to?

    Re: Build Sheet Code ??

My guess is that it is called out when another RPO is ordered...it's not a listed RPO in the Parts & Illustration Catalog. It may be a "process" or something the factory had to do to install another RPO.

I've got several 73 build sheets and I looked for some correlation between the ZP2 and other RPOs. At first I thought perhaps U58 stereo radio but than I found a sheet with U58 and no ZP2.

I don't believe it has to do with the Z07 handling package as the car has the L-48 engine and M20 4-speed.

        Flat-Out Guess

Looking at old NCRS Pocket Spec Guide for 1972, I see Code "ZP2" listed as Color & Trim Override. So could the letters on your build sheet be related to same ? What are the trim tag codes ?

The only new car I ever owned ('72 Corvette convertible) had ZP2 due to a Steel Cities Gray exterior coupled with Dark Bright Blue Vinyl trim. (Always wondered about that "dark bright" part.

          Re: Flat-Out Guess

Upon further review of the build sheet the text could be: TR/CLR O RIDE
The car was furnished in 422 trim and 976 paint which is a standard combination for 1973 based on the books I have. Do you have any idea what this trim & color over ride meant?

            Re: Flat-Out Guess

In checking my books for 1972 The Steel Cities Gray was normally available with black, red or saddle interior, blue was not a standard trim. So maybe ZP2 allowed a customer to get a non-standard trim/paint combination.
For 1973 the red and dark saddle were a standard combination so why would the ZP2 option be needed?

Art Armstrong might be helpful here...

Perhaps if a non-recommended color combo is being requested by the customer, than an override code is entered once zone confirms with the dealer that indeed this is what the customer wants. This instructs the factory that the order has been checked out and indeed this is what customer wants. This avoids errors in production of non-recommended combinations.

If we accept that rationale, than TR/CLR O RIDE makes sense in this case. Art Armstrong may be helpful and offer some insights here.

                Re: On second thought...

Custom Interior does not have an RPO and this seems consistent from 68 through 76. In 77 leather interior became standard and we see the designation -Custom Interior disappear from the RPO list in the black book.

So the question is how did Corvette/Chevrolet call out for a custom interior trim package...could it be the ZP2.

Roger, do you have a window sticker? A window may offer some hint or do you have customer interior. In later years (post 77), two codes are used for interior one for leather and than one for trim. But apparently in the early years, two codes are not used ad deliberately as in later years.

                  Re: On second thought...

I have two build sheets showing trim of 416 - medium saddle custom interior and the ZP2 code is not listed.

The window sticker for this Corvette shows the paint as:
                  976 76-76 Bright Red

I have another window sticker showing the paint as:
                  976 76-76 Mille Miglia Red

Per all the literature I have paint 976 is named Mille Miglia Red not Bright Red. The build sheet for this Corvette lists the paint option as 76 Red.

Could Chevrolet have painted this Corvette with a 'special' red thus needing the ZP2? I am surprised that the paint code number would be the same if the paint formula/name was different.

Re: Art Armstrong might be helpful here...

Tom nailed it - ZP2 was a "scheduling option", which over-rode both the Zone and Central Office order editing systems, which would otherwise reject the dealer order for showing a "non-recommended" exterior paint and interior trim color combination.

                      Yep, John hailed it.

Sorry for the late response, I've been away for a few days and leaving (again)for CC around noon. See some of you there.

If you get a chance, stop by the "Chip's Choice" display in building "T" as my car will be part of the Corvette News Cover Car display.
