    90 SES Code 32

I'm getting the dreaded EGR code 32 at cruising speed. In looking at the drivability section of the service manual (CODE 32) there is reference to grounding the diagnostic terminal. However, it never tells you where that terminal is. Can someone tell me where to find it.

    Thanks,

George how did you get the knowledge it is a code 32. I am not familiar with a 90, I do know how to get code read outs on my 85 and my 96 has OBDII so cannot get codes with a AC Delco "code reader key" like on my 85. Does the service engine light go out or stay on? My experience with code 32 years ago on my 85 was the sensor that screws into the EGR. I replaced the sensor and no more code 32's. Don't know how your sensor is made, but if like my 85's sensor be very careful installing it. The insulating material around the top of my 85's sensor can be easily destroyed during installation, hope they have improved in the past 12 years. My 85's sensor has a cut length of wire already installed coming out of the top of the sensor, the insulating material is around the top of the sensor where the wire comes out of the sensor. Oh, by the way, the only time I would get the code 32 was on interstate driving and it would be intermittent. No change in the performance of the engine that I could tell with the check engine light on. Good thing about the early C-4's, if you get a check engine light you can pull off the interstate and read the code yourself.
The AC Delco code reader key looks like a coin with two prongs that fit into the test connector and can be carried on a key chain.

On GM cars/trucks of this era, the service manuals typically give FULL schematic diagrams, that denote each branch circuit by number AND elsewhere provide a 'where to look' locator section....

        Jim,

I have one of the scanners that plugs into the terminal under the dash and pulled the 32 code with it. The service engine light comes on when cruising at steady speed and stays on until I turn the ignition off and doesn't cme back on when I restart the car. It can happen after 30 miles or up to 100 miles. I replaced the EGR valve when I replaced all of the fuel injectors. I was having the code 32 before I changed the injectors so I decided I may as well replace the EGR valve since it was easier to do at the same time. I thought it could be the EGR, but that doesn't seem to be the problem. There is no sensor on the EGR for the 90. There is a solenoid and that's my next step in checking out the EGR system. There is no problem with performance. Just the annoying light and I think there could be issues with putting out extra pollutants since the sole purpose of the EGR system is to reduce Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx)

          Jack,

Unfortunatly, the EGR circuit schematic and diagnostic flow chart (Section 6E3-A-42 and 43) in the service manual doesn't show the diagnostic terminal. Perhaps, I just don't recognize it in the book.

          Regards,
