    Dash Bulb Differences

Can someone possibly tell me the difference between a 1815 and a 1893 dash bulb?

    Thanks,

    Craig,

I think the difference is in candle power of the bulbs which is the brightness. My memory tells me that these two bulbs are shaped different, 1893 is round and 1816 is a thin bulb so the length may be different.

I used to have a table but could not find it. After some searching I found this catalog on the web. See page 24. It says both bulbs are 14 volt bulbs. It lists the amps/watts for the 1815 as 0.20. The 1893 bulb is listed as 0.33.

I assume that is the amp draw rather than wattage.

        Doug,

Very interesting catalog, thanks for posting it.

It should be noted that the 1816 and 1893 are nearly identical in wattage and size except for the filament type, candlepower, and avg bulb life. The 1816 is listed as an avg 1000 hour life with higher candlepower(3), and the 1893 is listed at 7500 hour, with a third less candlepower.

The application for the 1893 per my 67 Owners Manual is the Glove Box light which I think is common to all C2's. But here is what I found in my almost original owner 67 Glove Box:

An 1816, which I think is original to my 67, or maybe a pre-1969 change out. I don't remember ever dealing with that hood on it.

The 1815 is the same shaped bulb but lower wattage (.20) and less than half the candle power (1.4)of the 1816, but with a 3000 hour life. I think it is used for the instrument illumination.

Wonder if anyone else has an 1816 vs an 1893 in a 67 Glove Box?

This catalog may be just what I needed too. I have some dash instruments on my '58 motorcycle and my '66 Mustang that have always been difficult to read. I should be able to cross reference a higher powered bulb of the same configurations.
