The paint codes for red for 1967 and 1966 are listed as the same. I am looking to paint my car using Dupont paints (single stage) they have one formulary. I need help. I have always thought there was a difference in the reds of these years. The 67s seemed to be a little darker. I might be crazy. I really would like some help from others who have painted their car recently to find out what paint/formula they have used to achieve the proper results. I know that there are paint experts out there. Thanks. Keith

Re: 67 vs 66 color ---Red
Keith, My Chassie & Body Parts Catalog showes the '67 Rally Red (code 976)to be Lucite Stock # 4688-LH which is the same as the 66 Rally Red (code 9974). Also the same for 65 and 68 Rally Red. Besides Lucite, also list Rinshed-Manson Stock # A-1744R and Ditzler Stock # 71491.
So, Yep, they are the same.

Re: 67 vs 66 color ---Red
Keith, I've seen a lot of variations of the "correct" rallye red color, and for some reason even when you have it mixed by code, it wont come up the same. I dont think anyone knows anymore what the "correct" color was, and probably there were even variations within the same year when new, due to the different paint suppliers that GM used. You can start by having the paint mixed to the code and having the paint store tint more orange or more red to your preference. There is no authority on what is absolutely right.- Top
