Spare for my 64

Charles, don't believe the 56-62 wheels have the safety bead like the 64 wheels do. Gary....

I am not worried about "correctness", I just want to have a wheel that fits in the tub and on the car in case of flat.

Won't the tire size/tire profile for the spare be the determining factor regarding fit in the tub?

Charles, If you only need it for emergency use. Go to the scrap yard and ask for a temporary spare from a Chevrolet Astro or GMC Safari 2wd van, I believe the Hollander number is 1193. It also fits the spare tire tub, with room to spare. Just use a piece of thick foam to take up the extra space. Dave

While mini-spares sound like a great idea, you might want to match the diameter of the tires on the car with that spare if you have posi (in the event of a flat in the rear) . . . and don't want to do a two wheel change (remove good front tire, mini spare to front, good front tire to rear, rear flat to tub).

Charles - If you have any plans to be in, near or driving through Westport CT, I have a modern day spare rim with tire mounted that is cluttering up my garage (put a 5th KO in my 65's tub a few years back). Yours if you want it, N/C.

I may be driving up to Boston to drop my son off at school. Is Westport on the way? Thanks for the offer, will try to take you up on it. BTW, is the tire good enough for a spare or will I need to mount a new one?

Rubber on that rim is a never used (nubs still on tread) 195/65R15 plain jane radial of some recent (~5yrs old) vintage, I guess I could pull a date off the sidewall. Was in the tub when the 65 (wearing 4 KOs) came to me in 2003.

I-95 runs right through Westport CT, I suspect you'd be driving that up to beantown through this part of CT. shoot me an email on this, and you can help me create more space in my garage for tools and parts I may actually put on my car someday. or not
