'62 windshield assembly to body install?

    Hi,

I had removed the windshield assembly from my '62 to have some paint work done. I plan to have the car judged, but also drive it to shows etc... What is the best way to install and seal the windshield frame against to body ? Correct is good, correct with no leaks at the bottom is even better!
I did a search, but I'm not clear on the best method for fit and a good seal?

    Thanks,
    Paul

Did you look in the St-12 manual? Usually pretty informative and correct.

Please let me know how well your bottom windshield trim matches the contour of the body once re-installed. Mine has gaps varying from 1/16 to 3/16 inch and no one to date has had a solution other than beat it downward with a 1x2. I have viewed many 58-62's with the same variance. Mine had a perfect fit before being removed. Some have even suggested the body contour changed through the years of not having the windshield tightened down?

I am dealing with this right now. It can be made to fit, real nice if you have the patience!!! The bottom stainless slides on the u shaped frame before windshield assembly, this is where I found most of my varience, make sure it is seated the whole way down. As a last resort you can build the body gap up some to cheat, but that is just how nice door gaps are obtained on C1 cars.

Over forty years I've seen windshield bottom area's with and with out the rubber filler used .So If it fits having a gap I used clay leaving the rubber filler out that gives a much better body fit.

            Non hardening sealer?

The ST-12 says to use a non hardening sealer between the glass and weatherstrip and the weatherstrip and channel. What is a good commonly available sealer that won't interfere with assembly and prevents water leaks? Rich
