I have a 1968 Corvette with the matching number 427/390HP that was rebuilt to factor specs about 10,000 miles ago prior to me purchasing it. When I start the engine cold I hear a dull toned noise (not a valve train) that I have isulated to cylinder 7 by grounding the cylinders out with a test light at the distributor cap. This noise goes away when the engine gets hot. I was told that this is a fairly common problem with big blocks and that it could be a piston skirt to cylinder clearance issue that could be fixed by having the piston skirt knurled or it maybe the wrist pin. Also, the engine has strong, even compression around 210 PSI. Please let me know what you think could be causing the noise ...
